The Company's History PDF Print
In 1993 I started a business on my own by setting up a company. Together with another company belonging to some friends, we assembled a mutual holding, based on trust and without written contracts. They were dealing with alcoholic beverages and I was responsible with the storage and transport of the consignment. The beginnings were humble. I had a small wagon which I used to transport all kind of loads from potatoes, vegetables and beverages to aerial and satellite installations or spare parts for a broken ship anchored in a Greek harbour.

In 1994 out of the desire to extend my business I offered transport with an old small wagon by placing small ads in the local newspapers. A typing mistake of the newspaper editorial office, which initially upset me, meant a sudden turn of the wheel for my business. The newspaper (the Exchange) wrongly published my ad under the headline of “local and international transport” instead of “local and internal transport”. Without realizing it at that particular moment, that was in fact a reference point for the years to come: immediately after publishing the ad, my telephone had started to ring without cease with people asking about an international freight transport that I could not provide for. This is how the transport service began with me acting first as an intermediary.

In 1995 I started up an in-house computer application called DISPECER whose purpose was at that time the administration of agency transactions. Our company still uses this application even today and it represents the most pragmatic and cheap ERP application that we could have ever had.

In 1996 Dacoda separated itself from the associate holding in order to be able to work only in the field of transport and dispatch services. It was an act of courage and confidence immediately rewarded by the game of chance. Even if it was a stroke of luck, this circumstance would be afterwards treated with consistency, correctitude and perseverance: I had signed a transport contract with the Oriflame Company, a contract valid even today. In 1997 following the development of our client’s operations (Oriflame), the Dacoda Company opened another two offices in the country, in Cluj and in Timisoara, respectively. In the same year, Dacoda became a member of the Romanian Union of Road Transport Companies-USER.

The following years, 1997-2001, represented a period of growth and experience gathering. The personnel had doubled while the turnover registered an annual growth, small but constant. During this period due to the huge volume of communication implied by the road transports I started to be preoccupied by ways of making communication more efficient. Thus since 1997, Dacoda has had Internet connection for professional purposes. The Internet offered us the opportunity to work in all offices using the same database-which was an excellent achievement compared to the small investment costs for that period.

These preoccupations related to the agency-dispatch activity determined Dacoda to inaugurate in April 2001 the road transport portal called BursaTransport. At that time our confidence that the Internet could become a familiar tool for the Romanian transporters was more like an audacious adventure. Five years afterwards we had the satisfaction to see that reality surpassed our own expectations. BursaTransport became the daily working instrument for thousands of transport companies, became the most visited Romanian application in the field, the place where one finds thousands of new ads about loads and available trucks every day. For us the task of administering the application as well as the permanent dialogue with the members of the exchange has been and it still is a thrilling experience. We are pleased to be able to make Internet be perceived and used as a professional tool by Romanian carriers and dispatchers.

In the meantime Dacoda became a member of three Romanian Commerce Chambers: Bucharest, Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca. In 2005 as a result of a natural preoccupation for quality, Dacoda implemented a quality management system which received ISO9001:2000 certification from the well-known registrar Det Norske Veritas.

On 1st of January 2007 Dacoda did separate the forwarding and the BursaTransport’s administration. Dacoda continued the forwarding and transport operations, but the internet activity passed under the new company Dacodasoft. In early 2008, BursaTransport was subject of an aquisition by the Editorial and Publishing Group Wolters Kluver. Dan Cotenescu, was chosen to continue the management of BursaTransport by separating of Dacoda. He still remained the main owner of the forwarding company Dacoda. But the administration of it was took by another person.

The coincidence of these changes and the financial crisis of 2008 made hard times for Dacoda, as for most of other transport companies. The transport demand lowered but the most difficult to manage became the high risc of cashing the invoices.

Due to these circumstances Dacoda was forced to cut the expenses: restringere de personal, shuting down of Timisoara office, cancelation of renewal ISO 9001, retreat from Chamber of Commerce and USER.

After these actions were fullfilled, Dacoda got the strenght and the feeling of selftrust necessary to overcome to the actual crisis.
